A Healthy Expression of Free Speech

The New York Times > Washington > Campaign 2004 > Marchers Denounce Bush as They Pass G.O.P. Convention Hall

I watched about an hour of the march live on C-SPAN. What a scene! I wish I could have been there.

I noticed that all the news outlets skipped one of the most amusing parts of the march. Almost everyone, as they went by the FOX News sign had some sort of new chant about FOX News. Hmmm

This sort of referendum shows us the difference between us and the minions of the GOP. We will win because we are motivated.

Another aside, I hear the latest GOP talking point has to do with Kerry's cancer. This, too, shows us a clear difference between Kerry and Bush: cancer can be operated on, Kerry had his removed, fixed in a matter of hours; whereas Bush's afflictions will last the rest of his life.

Looking back on History: Election 2004

Election 2004

Love this site! Pay for the real stuff (if I had the money I would), but the daily fix, although it's just a little stale, on the free site is good enough for an insatiable news junkie like me.And now, the campaign is history. At least everything before today. A little review catches us up.Looking back on previous years...

NCPP Presidential Polls 1936 - 2000

We can see that the polls have been largely correct in the past, although I am still looking for a graph which covers the entire election season for at least the past several elections. I could do it myself, I'm sure, if I can find the information in the public domain, but I'm not inclined to.What I want to point out is that, although w did not win the election, inasmuch as you think about it democratically, the polls still favored him, albeit ever so slightly.

Then check out Polling Report for other current numbers:NCPP Polling Report.com 2004 Trial Heat Summary

A final check of the LATimes Electoral Vote Tracker shows you that the home stretch looks good for BIG K. Give Bush Florida and Ohio and get the map to show 269 each. Waving the cursor over the map shows the states where Kerry will be campaigning the hardest: Ohio and Florida cinch it with a victory in either state. So does Missouri or Arizona, where Kerry has surged recently.

The explanation of the 269 ea. scenario brings up some interesting possibilities. Again we will consult Polling Report:NCPP Polling Report.com 2004 Trial Heat Summary

Now, if Congress splits in favor of the Democrats, the new state delegation split can favor Kerry. It could be anybody's game, depending on the results. (I know I like the current poll data, but it could easily change next week in total favor of the GOP.)

And the results really do not matter much, as we learned in 2000. A small manipulation can yield devastating effect on the overall outcome.

And the situation has other eventualities, too. A republican Senate could give Dick to Kerry as veep. And a democratic Senate could give George a veep he does not want. Or, the greens could steal the show? Maybe someday in my lifetime. This two party system has given us enough trouble for too long, but that's a topic for another time.

As for this year, I still want to see the landslide I predicted. Randi Rhodes agrees with me lately, too. But not until later in October will you hear many others expressing this thought, after the polls catch up to the rest of us who already know.

Where Have All The Good Slogans Gone?

Thank goodness we're not turning a corner anymore. That would come close to acknowledging that Bush has made mistakes in gonvernance. And he wouldn't want to do that.

National sales tax? That idea hasn't taken hold, either. Leading up to the convention, the GOP has trotted out any number of ideas, some we are aware of, other we aren't. The one's we can point at, like these two, have been miserable failures in the public's grand political esteem.

The DNC has appropriated a few slogans, which have been successful enough as a group. As long as they do not have to round-file too many, the small re-tooling of the message as election day nears will not have to be as drastic as the GOP, who have a new line weekly, very weakly. You will never again hear that we're turning a corner. But you will hear that hope and help are on the way, send me and we can do better on through October.

Notice that the DNC chose red, white and blue for the Kerry campaign colors (red Edwards, blue Kerry Edwards, white, with blue letters for Kerry. And flag backgrounds, lots of flags. The GOP went green for the latest round of Bush stickers. Green. Hey George, that's the color of environmentalism, dope, naivete and envy. Good choice, green George.

What's next? Pagan orange?

Three Card Monty, Bush Style

Bush Announces Major Troop Realignment

What makes this a smart move? Smoke and mirrors, an elaborate, expensive, three card monty game does not show competent leadership in chief.

Are You Kidding Me? Why Bush could be a fan of terror

Guardian Unlimited | US elections 2004 | Why Bush could be a fan of terror

I know this is a terrible thing to think, however, it seems that this is how the GOP thinks it can get King George into a second term. God knows we didn't elect him the first time and it sure looks as though we won't elect him again. But if it's close enough to steal again, you can be sure this is one reason.

Bush Wants To Harm You

CNN.com - Bush misspeaks during signing ceremony - Aug 5, 2004

Mr. Bush, please share your thoughts about the War on Terrorism.

"Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we, they never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we."

Mr. Kerry, response?

"Help is on the way. We are turning the corner. Hope is on the way. Send me."

Who Can Take Barak? Illinois GOP offers Senate nod to Alan Keyes - Aug 5, 2004

CNN.com - Illinois GOP offers Senate nod to Alan Keyes - Aug 5, 2004

He's not even from Illinois! What kind of game is the GOP playing here? Sure, we will react to the specter of trying to poach an election with an out-of-state old dog. But that's the point: Keyes is an old dog and he can't win elections.

Next they're going to trot out Colin as the next great senator from (what state was that, Indiana?) Illinois. Not that Keyes is the bottom of the barrel, I have a lot of respect for him as an individual (but not as a politician), but not as the twisted GOP poster boy for defeating the newest star on the national political stage.

Reanimate Reagan, I say. That's what it'll take to top the Democratic show.

President Says War Was 'Right'

Just before he stormed off stage.

I had the mixed pleasure (I was home sick) of catching this news conference on the tele, C-SPAN, and thought that it was quite an eye-opener. This was the most forceful statement during the conference.

So, King George is yet unrepentant. We send the unrepentful to electoral h-e-double hockeystick.
